Once your kitten leaves my home, however, it begins experiencing an entirely new environment. Travel, changes in routine, exposure to unfamiliar surroundings, and the stress of transitioning to a new home can all affect a young kitten during the first several days.
A prompt veterinary examination provides reassurance that your kitten has made the transition successfully and gives your veterinarian an opportunity to establish a baseline for your kitten’s future care.
What happens during the examination?
Your veterinarian will typically:
- Perform a complete physical examination.
- Check your kitten’s heart, lungs, eyes, ears, and teeth.
- Evaluate body condition and hydration.
- Review vaccination and deworming records.
- Discuss parasite prevention.
- Review nutrition and feeding recommendations.
- Answer any questions you have about your new kitten.
This appointment is also an excellent opportunity to establish future vaccination schedules, discuss microchip registration (if applicable), and plan long-term preventive healthcare.
