No, really, let’s talk about feline diseases and genetic diseases. Why do I want to talk about this? It’s simple. Knowledge is power and education is the key.
After almost eleven years of breeding Siberian cats and kittens, I thought I had seen, heard about or experienced just about everything related to breeding live animals. I was wrong. Life will throw you curve balls when you least expect it and when we are talking about a happy, exciting time like purchasing a new kitten… it’s not the best time to be dodging curve balls!
The more breeders know and understand, the better equipped we are to raise our standards of health, care and socialization.
In my search for information on G Strep and Corona Virus I discovered an excellent source that explains feline diseases as well as genetic diseases in a simple, yet detailed way. I hope you will take the time to read about these diseases before you choose your Siberian cat breeder to ensure you are working with a breeder who understands the risk for these feline diseases and strives to prevent them. We, Siberian cat breeders, do not ultimately have control over life and death; however, we can strive to raise our standards of education, health, care and socialization.

Genetic Diseases
The above links may all be found in the footer of the Savannah Cat Association website. Yes, we are talking about Siberians; however, diseases don’t discriminate! One genetic disease not listed on the Savannah Cat Association website that Siberian cat breeders do need to be educated about is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). You can read about HCM on the Washington State University Vet Med website here.
