Her Story

By the time Karamel Kisses joined my breeding program, I had already learned one of the most important lessons in breeding: no cat is perfect.

As a relatively new breeder, I never imagined I would one day own a kitten like Karamel Kisses. Bred by my dear friend and mentor, Kris Hirst of Sibano Siberians, she represented everything I had dreamed of in a Siberian. Being entrusted with such a remarkable kitten by someone I admired and respected was an incredible honor—one I have never forgotten.

Karamel Kisses possessed the balance, expression, coat, temperament, and overall breed type that I had hoped to achieve in my own breeding program. If there was ever a cat that came close to my vision of the ideal Siberian, it was her.

Her success in the show hall reflected those qualities, but ribbons were never what made her exceptional. It was the privilege of watching her mature, living with her, and building future generations from her that made the greatest impact on my breeding program.

Her Legacy

Karamel Kisses became one of the defining females of Cartier Siberians, introducing not only treasured Sibano bloodlines, but also the generations of carefully developed breeding programs and foundation bloodlines behind them through the generosity of my dear friend and mentor, Kris Hirst.

Behind Karamel Kisses stood decades of careful breeding by many of the early pioneers who helped establish the Siberian breed in North America. Her pedigree brought together influential bloodlines from respected breeding programs including Sibano, EmeraldForest, Starpoint, Five Diamond, Windrifter, Pyramid, and the remarkable foundation cats upon which those programs were built. Being entrusted with that history was an honor I have never forgotten.

Her legacy lives on through two of her most influential offspring, Cartier Alexandrite Kisses and Cartier Red Moon Knight, whose descendants have carried her qualities forward through multiple generations of Cartier Siberians and continue to influence my breeding program today.

More than any single pedigree, however, Karamel Kisses influenced the direction of my breeding program. She became the standard I aspired to—not because she was flawless, but because she so beautifully embodied the qualities I valued most in the Siberian breed.

When I think of Karamel Kisses today, I don’t think first about her show titles or even the kittens she produced. I think about the generations of dedicated breeders whose work came before mine, and how privileged I was to become one small part of carrying that legacy forward.

Looking Forward

Looking back, there is one decision I wish I had made differently. Karamel Kisses and Charodey Roman were both traditional Siberians, and at the time I never imagined preserving that particular combination for future generations. My focus had shifted toward developing my Neva Masquerade program, and I simply didn’t think to retain a traditional kitten from the two of them.

With the benefit of nearly two decades of experience, I sometimes wonder what might have been. Their offspring were everything I had hoped they would be, and today I would have treasured the opportunity to continue that traditional line alongside my colorpoint program.

Breeding has a way of teaching lessons we only recognize years later. While I remain grateful for everything Karamel Kisses contributed to my breeding program, preserving a traditional kitten from her and Charodey Roman is one decision I would make differently today.
