Her Story
Obravo Liliya of Cartier holds a special place in my breeding program’s history. Born on March 2, 2008, she was the very first Siberian kitten born in my home and the first kitten I chose to keep for breeding.
At the time, I had not yet registered a cattery name with TICA, so the entire litter was registered under Carolyn Draper’s Obravo cattery. My first retained breeding female therefore became Obravo Liliya of Cartier—a name that reflects the transition from the program that began it all to the one that would soon become Cartier Siberians.
Liliya inherited much of her mother Alena’s beauty and gentle nature. She possessed substantial bone, a clean blue lynx point coat with very little tarnishing, expressive eyes, and a wonderfully balanced overall appearance. She was affectionate, devoted to her family, and an exceptional mother.
She also had a mischievous personality and wasn’t afraid to let everyone know when she felt she had been wronged. One unforgettable afternoon, after our Cocker Spaniel accidentally bumped into her, Liliya reared up on her hind legs and gave my husband two quick slaps across his feet—spat, spat—before calmly jumping onto the dining room table and depositing her opinion directly into Scooby’s food bowl—without missing. I laughed. My husband was considerably less amused.
Her Legacy
Liliya represented the first generation born at Cartier Siberians and the beginning of the bloodlines I would continue developing for years to come. Retained from my very first litter, she carried forward the qualities I admired in her mother while becoming the first breeding female I selected from my own program.
She possessed substantial bone, a beautifully clear blue lynx point coat with very little tarnishing, balanced type, and an exceptionally sweet temperament. As a mother, she passed those qualities on to the next generation, helping establish the direction of the Cartier Neva Masquerade line.
Looking back, Liliya marked an important turning point. She represented the moment my breeding program began evolving beyond its foundation, allowing me to make thoughtful breeding decisions based on the qualities I hoped to preserve for future generations.
Looking Forward
Although Liliya has long since retired, her influence remains visible throughout the Cartier breeding program. Several of the cats carrying her bloodline continue the Neva Masquerade branch she helped establish, preserving a line that traces directly back to Cartier’s very first litter.
Every generation has presented opportunities to improve health, structure, and genetic diversity, but the qualities Liliya consistently produced—gentle temperament, beautiful coats, and balanced type—remain the standard I continue to value.
